We are searching for an energetic, positive, reliable, community minded individual (youth position, age 15-30 years) to be part of our MES AMOURS CAFE at The Heart of Riverdale.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Kitchen Lead, this position is responsible for cleaning, stocking and maintaining the kitchen as well as helping with the preparation and service of meals and hot drinks.

Main Responsibilities:

Maintain the kitchen

Properly washing and drying the dishes, utensils, cooking instruments and cutting boards
Ensure that all work areas are properly sanitized
Remove garbage, replace garbage bags and wash garbage cans
Mop and sweep the kitchen areas as required
Assist kitchen staff to unload food supplies from delivery trucks as needed
Store ingredients and food items according to food safety standards
Safe operation of knife sharpeners, food processors, can openers and coffee grinders
Assist with basic meal preparation

Prepare meal ingredients, which includes washing, peeling, cutting, and slicing ingredients
Retrieve ingredients from the refrigerator, freezer and stockroom
Measure ingredients as per the Kitchen Lead’s instructions
Ensure the timely completion of kitchen duties

Education and Experience:

Grade 11 education
Experience working in kitchen settings
Food handler’s license (FoodSafe Level 1)

Requirements:

Understanding the principles of proper food handling
Ability to use common kitchen equipment and appliances safely
Ability to adapt and be flexible based on work demands and situations
Ability to work evenings and weekends if required
Ability to lift items weighing up to 25 kg
First Aid Certificate would be an asset
Good communication skills
Team player qualities

Conditions of Employment: Vulnerable Sector RCMP security clearance; all THOR employees are expected to conduct their duties in a harmonious and cooperative manner. Willingness to travel within Whitehorse, as required. Long periods of time standing.

Schedule: Monday to Friday shift work.

Early Childhood Educator: PRE- AND AFTERSCHOOL TEACHER

We are searching for an energetic, positive, reliable, community minded individual to be a part of our Pre-and Afterschool at The Heart of Riverdale.

​Job Summary:
This position teaches young children and works together with different teams to create programs that help support the children’s growth and development.
Salary: $23 - $35 per hour, based on education and experience
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 10:00 am - 6:00 pm

Main Responsibilities:

  • Creating programs to support intellectual, emotional, and physical development of children
  • Design curriculum and space with our current music, dance and visual arts department, focussed on making friends, foundations in literacy and fine arts
  • Teaching basic learning skills such as social skills, personal hygiene, number & letter recognition, shapes, and colors to children in our Pre- and Afterschool Care
  • Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
  • Observe and assess children’s progress and behaviour and report to team lead to discuss recommendations for referrals for additional supports for children with special needs
  • Assess the individual needs of each child to make sure they are being taught in a way that matches their particular learning style and skill level
  • Work together with other staff members and parents, make sure to communicate effectively and maintain collaborative relationships
  • Assisting with any programming at the Heart of Riverdale
    Ensuring the preschool is in good standing with inspections, early learning and child care

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum ECE Level 1
  • Completion of a two- to four-year college program focused on Early Childhood Education
  • Two to three years of experience in some form of child and youth care and supervisory experience is preferred
